What encoding speeds are you getting?
This is just a simple question to find out the encoding speeds people are getting from different systems: Please use the Big Bunny avi as your sample, http://oasis.vso-software.fr/videos/big_buck_bunny.avi (thanks to Cedric for providing the link) and encode using the default profile of MKV H264. St...

Re: New official version 1.5.0.3
Installed version 1.5.0.3 at about 9.30pm last night and getting the installation error "Invalid Data Type etc"
I can go past this and the application launches, but drag and drop iso onto window does nothing. Loading iso works, but getting the error message when trying to encode.

Re: Latest beta version - 1.4.0.21
After installing I now have 2 entries for custom profiles in the output format pull down list. If I create a new profile, or select an existing one then I get an access violation error message when either trying to load a DVD/Bluray iso or do an encoding. Exactly the same as Cribber has posted

Re: Feature Request: Crop Black Bars
Something a little odd here: Just tested the latest version 1.4.0.16b to try the removing of the black bars. On my Xeon desktop selecting the user defined as the fit method and then pressing the Remove Black Bars did nothing - no values were populated - nothing happens If I then tried the same versi...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
I totally agree - the new implementation of CQ is fantastic. I'm considering doing the same with my collection. Thankfully I don't have quite as many discs as you to convert - mine are just in the few 100's not the 1000's like you. What a task that's going to be. However, the benefits are worth it, ...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Hopefully yes
But I think the CQ option is the way to go - file size to quality ratio is excellent (IMHO - it's all very subjective when it comes to visual quality)

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Apologies for the delay, however here are some screen comparisons. Encoded the same episode, all at 1920x1080 full AC3 5.1 soundtrack. DVDFab version Constant Quality setting 20 = 3.1GB (7mins to encode using Quick Sync)- I got a similar size from Handbrake so just used DVDFab as the example. VSO ve...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Hello. Managed a few test and so far quite impressed. The ref frames setting does not seem to work, it stays on 2 no matter what I select. However, the new CF and CQ settings are looking good. First up, constant quality CF, agree that using the same setting as DVD fab or handbrake does not look quit...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
I'll do some testing and post screen shots at the weekend. Going to be away the next couple of days.

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
I was converting down to 1280x720 but with an AC3 5.1 audio track. If I left it at 1920x1080 then it took a minute longer

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Doing a few more tests things get even more daft DVDFab has the option of using Intel Quick Sync and their silly fast options called Lightning Recoding and Lightning Shrink. Putting the same episode through that on my i7-3517U laptop with a CRF value of 16 converted in 6 mins with a file size of jus...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Here are some screen shots using the latest 1.4.0.13 version of Video Converter. CUDA now working, although seems to be much slower. This could of course be down to the better quality settings that have been implemented. Previous working version I was getting around 150-180fps, this new version only...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
I would be very interested too. Getting file sizes and quality like that would be good. I am however hoping that with all the tweaks and changes Video Converter may prove to give us the best results.

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
I don't really condone what they are doing, that whole scene is not really what this is all about. If, like me you own the original material and just want to back it up into a different format. I have lost too many DVD and blu rays to jam covered fingers and scratches from little ones playing with t...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Actually I had forgotten how good convertX was. I purchased that back at version 4 a good few years ago. I remember all the comments from people asking why it did not due the whole capacity of a DVD when it was making the conversions. Basically came down to the same thing. Fingers crossed they can d...

Wow you literally just took the words out of my mouth. I was about to mention YIFY. Would love to know their settings as I have been shown some of their encodings. Fantastic. That's what I am after.

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
I know 6000 is a bit low for BluRay but, I was chatting to Cedric today explaining that this is all apples fault really. I downloaded my first HD movie from them and was shocked at how good the quality was and how small the file was. Full HD movie with AC3 5.1 audio. Only 4gb in size and a max bit r...

Re: Doing something wrong - custom profile terrible results
Screen Comparison 01.jpg I did a couple of screen comparison shots to show the quality differences. All encodings were full 1920 x 1080 and included an AC3 5.1 audio track. The image on the left is from VSO VC. It is using the standard H264 profile and increased the bitrate to around 6000kbps. The ...
