Encoding Q and A
A lot of people come here believing that traditional VBR encodes are better than CQ encodes mostly because VBR is the method they are familiar with and VBR will completely fill their DVD while CQ does not -- see http://forums.vso-software.fr/understanding-cx2d-conversions-and-how-to-get-best-quality...

Determine if changing encode option will be beneficial
The Automatic encode option chooses from three encoding profiles, SP, MP or LP, the one chosen will show in the ConvertX work area and it is also shown in the log of the conversion. Automatic usually picks the best one except for videos that have very simple scenery. A method is presented here that ...

Yes the old version was my problem. 1.0.0.14 is actually faster than CX2D 5, good job.

Re: Video Formats Supported
That is it Cedric, sorry I was using 1.0.0.13. Didn't notice that 1.0.0.14 fixed the issue, will download it and get back if it is still slow.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Video Formats Supported
The images are for a Vista q6600 computer. Same settings for both programs including no video board usage.
Framerate starts at 30 for both Convert X and Video Converter but goes up for Convert X and goes down for Video Converter. Time left when Video Converter reaches 3% increases to 5:44.

Re: Video Formats Supported
It has that option but with less flexibility than ConvertX. However, it is presently so slow on my computer that it isn't realistic for me to use unless changes are made.

Re: Burning Converted DVD's?
Simple annswers to complicated problems are not always possible. The simplest solution is to drag all those converted DVDs into DVD Converter and re-convert. You will have to re-convert anyway if the total size of them is more than the size of the DVD you want to put them on no matter what program y...

How to eliminate a news crawler or other unwanted object
Suppose you have a video with a news crawl trailer near the bottom of the screen that you want to get rid of. You can crop the bottom of the screen to remove that part. That can be done in the video resize editor. The ConvertXtoDVD v5 editor is shown here but the one in other VSO programs is similar...

Re: Crop and green fuzzy lines
Using auto crop, the preview image looked perfect cropping the top and bottom black bars, however once encoded the bars were still there. Please tell me where I can find an auto crop option that removes letterboxed black bars in the preview, I can't find it anywhere. Cropping can be done in the Vid...

Re: Cropping in beta 2.0.0.6
(On a side note : Any real advantages to cropping? Was thinking that not having to recode those blacks would mean smaller file or better quality at same size. Is this actually the case or...?) A solid full screen black panel requires only about 25 kbps (less than half what most subtitles require) s...

Avoiding problems with double layer DVDs
Burning to DL DVDs causes even more problems than emcontered with SL discs. Here are some tips to make it go as smoothly as possible. 1. Use good quality discs, they will have fewer failures, so will be cheaper and cause you less stress in the long run. Verbatim +R DL DVDs are almost universally rec...

Re: Copy DVD and make it loop
ConvertXtoDVD can do what you want. Copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to your hard drive or rip it if it is copy protected -- read http://forums.vso-software.fr/using-existing-dvd-files-in-cx2d-t9373.html to see how to use the files. CX2D will reconvert so you will lose a little quality. The onl...

Re: How to save and burn another copy of your converted file
You can burn another copy at any time even if you have not kept the converted files on your hard drive. Simply make a new folder on your hard drive and copy the VIDEO_TS folder from your already burned DVD to that new folder. Then "go to "action" and click on "burn an already con...

Re: DVDs only partly filled won't play
Turns out I won't use this player after all because of this feature of ignoring titles with small file sizes. I do a lot of DVDs that combine photo slide shows and short video clips as separate titles where the slight pause between titles played consecutively serves as a transition between titles. T...

Re: DVDs only partly filled won't play
It evidently ignores video files less than 30 seconds or less than a certain file size. I noticed it turned the line "Looking for features" orange while parsing my disc with static scenery videos maybe because of their file size. So I ran another test with a single 1 minute normal scenery ...
