Latest beta version 2.0.0.98: Subtitles not working properly

Post by mue.mat »

Hi everybody
Now soft AND hardcoded subitles AND subtitles with filled box are not working properly (subtitle "colour" gets transparent or subtitles are "blocked").
I don't understand why it shouldn't be possible to fix this longlasting issue. Even with every new version it's getting worse.

I have just made a test conversion MP4 to MKV --> DVD. Subtitles are working fine here.
Default Settings.

My conversion is from MKV to BluRay.
The problem with subtitles appears approximately every 15-20 sec. while watching the converted movie. Quite annoying ...

Sorry about the quality of he picture PowerDVD does not allow screen capture from Blu-Ray

Problem is that 95% of subtitles are correct (f.e. color white).
Then suddenly ... finally is grey, and font should be white, but isn't.
The problem now is not only with subtitles with filled box, but also "normal" soft- and hardcoded subtitles.
Last stable version for me is ...94.
Also in software ConvertXtoHD subtitles are working fine.
So any how there must be a bug.

Hi mue.mat,
It would be great to have the subtitles files which aren't working properly so Jacques can have a look at it.

Good morning Maggie
Every type of subtitles. Neither embed subtitles in video file or .srt-subtitles. I use mostly this type of subtitles.
You get an example attached (just change file extension from .jpg to .srt). There most be a difference in latest beta version 2.0.0.98 (or less) compared with v2.0.0.94 which works totally fine for me.

Strange, I cannot attach subtitle file. But the subtitles files are not the problem. The error occurs ALWAYS.

PotPlayer
But this isn't the problem either.
I'm burning Blu-ray-structure to disk and watching the movie by beamer.
Subtitles are appearing «wrong» both, with any kind of media player and watching by beamer.

I suggest not to burn on media at least until the problem is solved.

mue.mat,
Are the movies from the same source, like for example a series ?
Can you try an other move which is not MKV. You can perhaps try MP4 ?
You can also try the VLC player on the problematic conversions, just for a test.

I had the same problem happen to me once. I have changed the movie and that solved the problem.

I never tried out mp4 files because my source files ALWAYS are mkv files. But up to version .94, subtitles are working fine, only upcoming versions have the bug.
Also, software ConvertXtoHD is working fine with subtitles, but for me not that userfriendly.
Sorry for not trying out conversion with mp4 files, but for me I need mkv files to convert with subtitles.

As I said earlier, This problem also happened to me. But in my case it was in the movie file not the subtitles or the application.
Although your problem could be coming from a different source.

This can still be multiple issues as both mkv and mp4 are container formats.
Files with these extensions can have different encodings on video, audio and subtitle.

I'm using a variety of mkv sources, in English, German and Portuguese. The same with the source of .srt subtitle files.
The subtitle failure ALWAYS happens.
Up to version .94 ConvertXtoVideo was working fine in terms of subtitles.
I also tried out some other software --> subtitles are working fine.
For me: the bug seems to be in ConvertXtoVideo.
Bye the way, even in older versions the kind of problem with subtitles happened, and every time it WAS a bug.

It could well be a bug. The problem is trying to reproduce the issue, since it is not apparently happening to others.
I will be running some tests today and see what results I get.

BTW, ConvertXtoHD has almost the same structure as ConvertXtoVideo. It would take perhaps a little longer to get used to, but at the end you will have more options to choose from.

I know that apparently I am the only one having the subtitle issue.
In fact I'm using a lot of subtitles. Maybe there will be another user having the same problem to help reproduce the issue.

Sorry, I couldn't reproduce the issue. Maggie also tried but couldn't either.
Perhaps the only possible way is to try and reproduce using the same movie file which you are using.

Hi
Well, both you can't reproduce the issue, so most probably I must have some kind of settings that causes the issue.
And I guess what was the problem, even I have to run further checks:

1. To be sure not "holding an old burdon" I made a totally clean reinstallation, deleting as well all kind of VSO software

2. After changing/checking all kind of settings I guess I found the problem: As code page for subtitles I had the basically recommended "UTF-8"
(because of the
language Portuguese).
So I changed this code page to - from software recommended/automatically generated - "Unspecified"

That means, after reinstallation and changing code page
