Write success at try #2

Post by eddie11013 »

Been getting this every time I use it. It still burns the DVD, so I guess its O.K. Just wondering if there is an issue. Using latest version.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello,

Bizarre, you are using very good quality media:
09:26:17.520 Info Media ID: TYG03
Burning at 8x should be fine, but if it occurs too often, try reducing to 4x.
09:36:29.444 Info Write finished in 00:10:06.873 - Finalization start here. Avg. burn rate 4.77
Your average burn speed was x4.77 anyway and not x8 !

I would rather have a slower PERFECT burn than an 8x with some errors/issues...

My 2 cents...

Changed burn speed to 4x, still got the 'write success at try #2' issue. If I'm reading the log corrected, there were "46" tries.

I should note that the project did complete successfully. Wondering if its because I'm now using Windows 11. Also, in the past I used the burn program ImgBurn, which I no longer use. Wondering what burn 'program' ConvertXtoDVD is using. I have on my PC, the burn program "BurnAware Free".

Hi,

As mentioned before, you are using quality media, so keep using them.

If the burns are successful, they all play 100% without skips or jam, I would stop worrying I guess :D

Thanks,

While they, DVD's, are working, I'm thinking that there may be "the" issue, just not a big one. What I mean is that I have 'just' used 'two' DVD-RW's and the 'write' issues is only like "4". But the DVD's, as previously noted, is like in the '40's'. Maybe the DVD's are some kind of knock off. Anyway they seem to work so I'll leave it alone. I did buy them on Amazon.

Thanks for replying

Hi,
Media ID: RITEK-004-30
Those Ritek are touch and go as quality, they are "ok"
Media ID: MKM-A02-00
But those are Verbatim, they should be solid media

And yes, RW medias are most likely only support x4 speed to burn...

Stay away from Memorex or any CMC Mag media id, they are cheap and real garbage (My opinion)...

Stick with Verbatin AZO Die, worth every penny.....

They do make 8x DVD+RW, but they are only made by Ritek. So, sometimes compatibility problems arise. Best to stick to 4x. And they used to make 6x DVD-RW, but I don't think you can find that anymore.

Memorex is a bit weird. They're like Verbatim. Both will use Mitsubishi (MKM), the best optical disc manufacturer out there, for their manufacturers but also CMC Magnetics, the worst.

As was said, best stay away from CMC media. I always return CMC media whenever I see it's something I bought. CMC media is responsible for over 50% of the problems we see on the ImgBurn forums. Avoid any Verbatim bought in a brick and mortar store. They will be CMC. So, stay away from the Verbatim Life Series (NOT the DataLife Plus series, which is good.) you find in Office Depot, etc. The good AZO/DataLife Plus Verbatim media will only be found online. And, I also highly recommend the quality Verbatim stuff; not the CMC stuff, obviously.

As was also said, Ritek is an OK quality manufacturer. Stay away from their DVD+R DL, though. MKM is the only quality manufacturer of those.

I too am encountering this problem as well. The only thing that changed is the 5 or so DVD burners I have bought over the years. My old ASUS ROG had a built in drive that didn't do it, nor did that drives replacement. When I got a new ROG i had to go to external drive, so I bought a ASUS drive just for the heck of it. It didn't do it, but then that drive was failing to burn Dual Layers, so I replaced it with the same drive.

Then I got the write success at try #2 errors. Again all disks turned out fine, but take much longer to burn due to this error. I will state that once a drive does this it doesn't matter what Media (Sony, Verbatim, or Taiyo Yuden even a HP disk blank (Cheap) I have tried. This happens with a DVD+, DVD- and dual layer. It is quite frustrating. I had a cheap Amazon Chinese brand burner that didn't do it, then again lost ability to burn Dual Layer, bought the same one 2 weeks ago and same error.

So splurged on some websites top burner recommendation, hooked it up and started a burn and you guessed it.. Same error. So it isn't the media, isn't the burn speed (I have tried down to 2 and 3 speed, isn't the player/burner...that leaves software....anyone got anything that they can think of? Btw I am using the latest software that I know of 7.0.0.83.Then again I have seen this issue reported since 2015, why is it not getting support or answers?

Do you also have the latest firmware installed in you burner?
And I never use ConvertXto... to write to a empry disc.
I create the disc and then I create from the files a .ISO file with Imgburn.
And I write that .ISO file with Imgburn to a empty disc.
Doing this for 20 years now.
And be carefull NOT to buy the cheap Verbatim disc's -> DVD+R 8,5 GB VERBATIM Double Layer DataLifePlus.
They are not good.

You can't buy them anymore but I still use Pioneer Internal BD writers -> BD-RW BDR-212D
Have repleaced one with a ASUS BW-16D1HT (also a internal writer).
The ASUS is also doing a good job.

As you are struggeling with this problem from 2015, maybe the burners are not the
issue but something else with your PC.

The primary thing I am taking away from these posts is the use of external burners. The internals seem to work but no matter the media, the issue seems to eventually appear on external burners. External burners are generally slim models and slims are usually pretty bad at writing things. I never use them for writing, just for reading.

That said, I DO use external enclosures, BUT I put half height drives into half height enclosures. I use the ASUS Blu-Ray internal half height drive in a VanTech USB 3.0 half height enclosure.
