network adapter problem
Hi,
I installed VSO Downloader 2.9.5.5, and upon starting it said: No network adapter detected, you may need to reboot your computer in order to initialize the driver.
I rebooted, but the trouble remaines.
My computer runs Windows XP and two Realtek RTL 8139 NICs, one of them is for internet, which comes over copper cable.
Both NICs operate correctly, all programs that use them, work fine.
I read these pages, they do not cover this trouble:

http://forums.vso-software.fr/convertxt ... s-f23.html
I used the help search function, the only topic it found is this one. My log files are attached.

Re: No streaming detection / network adapter problem
Also, I set firewall to permit any activity for VSO Downloader. The trouble remains.
Please, advise.

Re: No streaming detection / network adapter problem
Downloader uses WinPcap to capture packets.
This is from FAQ of WinPcap:
This is from FAQ of WinPcap:
Code: Select all
Q-10: Does WinPcap work in connection with personal firewalls?
A: We got several reports saying that WinPcap does not work well if a personal firewall is installed on the same machine as WinPcap. The typical problem is the impossibility to capture all or part of the traffic from an adapter, but some users reported strange behaviors (like some packets disappearing) on the transmit side too.
Most of the times, the problem is caused by non-standard interactions between the firewall and the network stack of the OS, so there not a lot to do on our side; the suggested remedy consists in uninstalling the firewall.
Note: uninstalling, and not disabling, because some firewalls (like ZoneAlarm) keep having strange behaviors even when they are disabled.

Thank you all for the advice.
No, I have neither deinstalled the firewall, nor changed the network configuration. I have to decide what to choose.

Re: No streaming detection / network adapter problem

Re: No streaming detection / network adapter problem
Hi,
I have deinstalled v.2.9.5.5, installed v. 2.9.9.22. The firewall is on, all activity is allowed for VSO Downloader.
Upon starting the Downloader displayed the Network Driver Problem dialog (see vso2.jpg).
I pressed the Start Driver button. The program run a short DOS session and said "Unable to start the driver" (see vso3.jpg).
I pressed OK. The program launched, though not in full operation.
I tried to download Youtube video a couple times. The Chrome browser displayed video correctly, VSO Downloader did not notice video in the browser.

Re: No streaming detection / network adapter problem
It seems that this is not a problem with VSO Downloader, this is a problem with WinPCap and XP with two or more identical NICs.

Try with only one NIC connected, should work just fine.

Re: No streaming detection / network adapter problem
if the network driver (Winpcap) has been uninstalled then reinstalled during the same session you cannot restart it: you need to reboot your computer then it will start automatically.
