Just downloaded and installed free VSO Downloader yesterday...Wonderful product! I'll test it for awhile, but it looks the "Ultimate" version is in my future...
With that said, can anyone tell if there's a setting that allows my download streaming video at it's highest quality the first time it's "detected"?

It does it if sending site supports it.
Most sites do not, they send what ever user has selected before, or they always start sending low quality unless user clicks and selects high quality.

Yep...I see what you mean. I discovered the same workaround in Youtube when looking for HD content of any sort. Select the HD button in one the list of available videos that interest me and all subsequent videos are recognized as HD in VSO Downloader...In other words, let Youtube sort the quality content and VSO Downloader will do the rest...Great Product!!
