Re: A new VSO Video Converter Alpha version is available!!!

Post by dgmckenzie »

Never noticed a slightly newer version.
Downloaded and installed. nothing has changed with regard the conversion, although the % / Time through is more constant.

I did have problems updating from the previous version though:

1. Ran VSOVideoConverter_setup_1.0.0.9 as Adminstrator (2nd time)

2. Received an error from Windows that it could not replace avcodec.dll, avformat.dll, avutil.dll, wvc1mod.dll and VideoConverter.exe files.
I manually renamed each file and clicked on Retry and moved on to the next error.

3. VideoConverter automatically started.

4. I add the video to be converted and received an Access violation at address 6F54424D. Read of address 6F54424D

5. I Quit and restarted VideoConverter and it started to convert as expected.
For Golmembers users who want to retrieve the unlock key, please contact VSO support directly: support@vsosoftware.fr
Our upgrade page (used to generate/send register key) will be updated soon.
The upgrade page still doesn't seem to send Video Converter keys. And I also got no reply from support@vsosoftware.fr. :(

I tried http://www.vso-software.fr/upgrade.php on Friday and a second (or even third?) time on Monday. The page said that an e-mail with the key for Video Converter was sent, however, I didn't receive the key (I got a key for Blindwrite 7 which I hadn't retrieved yet, though). However, I got a reply to my e-mail to support@vsosoftware.fr today and received the key. So everything is fine now. Thank you for your assistance.

Unfortunately, I haven't found the time to really try and compare the VSO Video Converter yet, but I'm sure it is as great as the other VSO programs.

At a first glance, I couldn't find WebM as an output format. Are there plans to add it in the near future?

Hi,

I have opened an official Feature Request for you on the bug site:

http://bugs.vso-software.fr/view.php?id=6663

Asking if WebM will / can be added in the future.

With the word "Web" in there, I assume this is a format used to put video on web pages ?

Sorry not a video guru at all :)

Hi Cougar_II, and thank you very much for your assistance!

Yes, WebM is one of the two major HTML5 video formats, the other one being MP4. Internet browsers can natively play these formats without using Adobe Flash or a similar plugin. Thus, embedding videos in an HTML5 video format has become very easy. If I remember correctly, Firefox, Chrome and Opera support native WebM playback. Safari and Internet Explorer support native MP4 playback.

This is great, thanks a lot! I've been using SUPER on my wife's fast computer to convert M2TS videos to WebM, now I tried VSO Video Converter on my slow computer. VSO Video Converter seems to be way faster (even on my old machine) and delivers better video quality.

This is what I have asked for a long time ago.
What I would like to have is a mpg 2 container in the user defined settings. I can't find the screen settings 16:9 or 4:3.

Hello Coral,

Sorry but I missed your post talking about your mpeg2 container request...
I will add it in next version.

"I can't find the screen settings 16:9 or 4:3": I don't understand what you mean here?

Hi cedric,
Thank you for your reply.
In most video converters you will be able to set the the screen aspect ratio 16:9 or 4:3. Unless the application will choose the AR according to the imported media autamatically. I prefer manual settings.

Hello Coral,

I added Mpeg2 container in custom profile editor list (in last beta 1.0.0.12).

I can't add the 16/9 - 4/3 setting in global settings because it's related to "TV playing" files only.
If you want to force output file aspect ratio to 16/9 or 4/3, you just need to create your own custom profile and select a 16/9 or 4/3 resolution in list.

OK cedric, Thanks for adding the mpeg2 container. It is no problem to create a coustom profile with a 16:9 or 4:3 AR.
Where do I set Custom Resolution and Aspect Ratio ?
Thanks for your good work.

@Coral:

You're right, the "custom resolution" part was broken in custom profile editor...
I fixed it today and you will be able to set your custom width/height in next version.
I changed some parts in custom profile editor too: "Mpeg" container will produce an Mpeg-2 TS file now (.ts)

@Chihuahua

I added both .mts and .m2ts containers in custom profile editor AND I added new profiles (AVCHD & Blu-ray file format) in profile selector (under "Transport stream" template)

Thank you for your help...

Converted two older videos from MKV to AVI using the AVI Xvid settings. I have registered the software. The conversion went well and the files played on my computer. Took the files to a stand alone DVD player and plugged the USB in. The player, an older Phillips DVD, saw the USB, and the files on the USB. When I tried to play all I got was a black screen. No video, no sound. The timer indicated the video had been playing. Went to a newer Sony Blu-ray Player. Plugged in and got a great picture, but no sound. Ran Media info and got the following;
