can't figure out the settings for my dv player

Hi!
Hoping someone will take pity and lend me a clue, or at least tell me if what I want to do is possible. I do have gold membership, so I could use other vso products if one of those is better... thanks in advance. :)

I have an ivew-103dv dvd/media player that will play some avi files from a usb drive but it fails to recognize most of my existing avi files and all of my conversions. mainly I just want to be able to convert video files as needed so that I can play them in this thing from a jump drive, but trial and error isn't getting me anywhere. I think I have tried all the avi combinations in this program and dvd converter as well, without success, so maybe the codec I need isn't even supported. ?

Its Specs say:
Playable Video Codecs: MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 (DivX) with QPEL, GMC (1 warp point), b-frames with packed bitstream
Playable Audio Types: MP3 2.0 (CBR, VBR, SBR), WMA9 2.0 (CBR, VBR)
Playable Video Containers: AVI, DivX

Begin by downloading Mediainfo (http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download) and check the properties of the file that plays well on your device. Try to use the same settings in the converter.
You can also copy the properties of the file that plays well from Mediainfo and paste them in your post. I'm sure that one of the VSO team will be able to advice you.

As I said, I tried every avi output including the muxing, also a couple custom configurations, without success, making me wonder if it is even possible to reproduce the output format with this software...

Have you compared file properties from files with the same extention ?
For example, an avi file which plays fine against an avi file that will not play.

Yeah, I only ask for help as a last resort. I tried all that before posting here,
I really need VSO to let me know if any of their stock or custom configurations are capable of outputting to match the specs. At this point, I kind of guess the answer will be No and I will have to give up on the idea of sending this off to my Dad full of files and just use it for DVDs. I can ;ive with that, but if there is a setting that will work, or if they are working on one, it would be nice to know.

Please can you try the custom profile I made (in attachment).

PS: have you tried to create a custom profile by using the "Get profile from sample file..." function in custom profile editor? Can you try with Generic Video/Mpeg2-PS format?

Thanks!! When I found the create custom profile from sample file function, I thought it would solve my problem, but it didn't work for me either.

I downloaded the rar, extracted to an xml file, then moved it into the custom profile folder of the program. I assume that will allow me to select the profile.

Right now I am trying a conversion from MPEG-2 PS NTSC16-9, since I think I tried that the other day, but can't be 100% sure as it has been a few days now and I did get tired of trying things and eventually give up...

Next I will try the custom profile you created, and if that doesn't work, I will try the 'create profile from sample file' again, then compare the output and report back.

Moving the xml file as described doesn't make it show in the list of formats, please tell me, how do I use it?

Uncompress the attached file in "C:\ProgramData\VSO\VSO Video Converter\1\custom_profiles" then restart the program...

Odd, since that is what I did (guess I am not *totally* stupid after all lol), but the custom profile isn't showing up there even repeating the process or after a pc reboot. Lucky for me, it doesn't matter, since your first suggestion was the winner. :-)

I had gotten hung up on trying the avi format, since all user reviews of the dv player that I found mentioned only "some avi files" working, and none of the mpg files that I tested at first played at all... nevertheless, the generic mpeg-2 ps format does play for me in the device! Yahoo! Thanks for helping me figure this out. VSO rocks, and I have never once regretted buying my gold membership.
