Re: Feature Request: High Definition Audio for AC3 and DTS

Post by scorpion90 »

I've installed v1.4.0.17b and used my custom 1080p remux profile on my test standard mkv file with DTS HD MA 7.1 audio and did a conversion. The conversion process was much faster at 75 to 80 frames per second and the invidia inspector verified a high utilization (see attached pic v1.4.0.17.png).

The conversion did not respect my audio settings of DTS and remux if possible. The software reported just the 5.1 core of the DTS audio and during the conversion it converted it to AC3 instead of DTS! (see attached pics v1.4.0.17.a.png and v1.4.0.17.png).

Hope this helps improve audio issues, Thanks,

Tony

Thanks Tony...so you're not seeing a reduction with latest beta, are you using NVIDIAs newest driver too?

Hi Mojo,

I am using "340.52-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql" driver which I believe is now the latest for my Geoforce GTX 645.

Loaded up version 1.4.0.18 and ran a conversion of my standard mkv file with DTS HD MA 7.1 audio and got the same results as version 1.4.0.17. See above post for version 1.4.0.17 issues.

Thanks,

Ditto for version 1.4.0.19. Hoping for improvements in audio remuxing.

Hello scorpion90,

Be sure that I haven't forgotten the 7.1 remux problem...
You don't need to try your file on each new beta version, just check the change log first.
Like you can see in forum, we are working on new features (hardware optimization, constant quant/quality rate modes...) used by more users than remux on specific audio format.
This problem is in my task list, and I will do all I can to work on this week.

Hello scorpion90,

I finally worked on your remux problem, and you should be able to remux your DTS HD/TrueHD/AC3 7.1 audio streams with next version (coming soon) 8)

Hi Cedric,

Can I make an addition to this request for that coming feature? When giving the user the choice of remuxing/converting audio files, can you incorporate the options in the "Advanced edit" window, and allow for selection of which audio type to remux and which to convert to a different codec? This would allow the user to convert AND remux audio files for a MKV at the same time......Is this possible?

Please see edited screenshot as an example to see what I am referring to.

Thanks Cedric
-Cheers!

Hi Cedric,

Thanks for the quick work on the audio remux. I installed version 1.4.0.20 and did a conversion with my baseline mkv file with DTS HD MA 7.1.

I double checked to make sure my custom remux file had the proper properties per the following picture (Audio 2.png).
Custom Audio Attributes
Custom Audio Attributes
The program correctly identified that the audio was DTS 8 channels by the following picture (Audio 1.png).
Audio Identification
Audio Identification
When I did the conversion, the program indicated that it converted the file from DTS 8 channel to AC3 6 channel per the attached picture (Audio 3.png).
Conversion Properties
Conversion Properties
The program is now at least identifying the full audio stream (it says DTS Main which I assume means the full DTS HD MA audio stream).

I will also try with AC3 TrueHD and report results, but that was working previously.

Thanks for all the work,

Tony

Hello scorpion90,

Thank you for your screenshots.

"When I did the conversion, the program indicated that it converted the file from DTS 8 channel to AC3 6 channel"
My tests was using mkv output format, and I forgot to check Blu-ray output...

The DTS 7.1 audio track will be remuxed (bug reproduced/fixed) with next beta version (coming today)

Hi Cedric,

Thanks again for the quick development of the audio remux, but I now have a different problem that results in my not being able to choose any of my custom profiles. I have two(2) custom profile categories (see attached pic Custom Selections.png) on my drop down menu and when I choose a custom profile all it says is "custom profile" not my custom named profile(see attached pic Custom Selections2.png). So I am unable to try out the new audio remux settings. Do you think a clean reinstall would help? I hate to loose my settings and license.

Thanks,

I just tried remuxing DTS HD and PCM HD audio files, and I couldn't get either one to pass through. They both reverted to conversion codec in my "... otherwise use" setting. Is remuxing HD audio working for you? Am I doing something wrong?

Log files posted...

Also, I noticed in the logs that "Use 2 pass encoding" wasn't used when I have it checked in the global settings. I only ran a ~45 second conversion for the test....could this be why?

Thanks

Hello MyMojo,

Can you try by using default MKV remux profile?

Thank you.

Hi Cedric,

I tried default MKV remux, and it worked great for the DTS but not PCM. I am assuming this is because it's not supported yet?
Are there plans for remux to work in custom profiles?

Thanks,
Garrett
