Hi Everyone
i was just wondering if people could give some idea on encoding time/frame rates..
i have just converted one film took around 2.5 hours, the encode was set to best quality,BD25 and conversion priority was set at Normal, i was getting around 16FPS
i know it depends on film content etc, but just wanted an idea on what other people are getting.

You're right, conversion speed depends on a lot of things, so what other people experience isn't very helpful.
What I do is use short clips of different types of videos, maybe 10 minutes long (crop the video if necessary), and run tests with different settings, then compare results for quality differences if needed. The first thing you should check is that best quality setting, it makes conversions about 1/4 as fast as those without it and with no benefit that I have found.

Thanks for the suggestions, the main reason I'm asking is I'm looking at a
New PC and wondered what other people were getting and what their PC set up was.

A fast CPU and adequate fast memory are most important. Maybe someone more qualified will see your post and help with specifics.

Find Default Settings tab at the top scroll down to Video Processing now click it now look down at.
There's a little box beside these 3 setting click on 3 if it'll let you and not grayed out.
Its the only way I could do anything with this program is with those settings.

Make sure you clicked all (3) of those settings. In ConvertXtoHD I get 250 FPS. ConvertXtoDVD I get almost 500 FPS. It helps big time!

Do one video at a time, it helps less stress on your system, make convertxtohd queue everything but one. It does things faster that way. I can fit 17 videos on a 25GB Blu Ray.
I recommend, Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W, if you're encoding it will be a step ahead. But if you're really wanting to jump forward get this > Intel Core i7-5960X Haswell-E 8-Core 3.0GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W. Just remember AMD overclocks way better then Intel Chips, I've got my 8150 clocked at 4.02 Ghz and its a beast, even for being about 3 years old.

I've got the choice of either i7 5930k 3.5GHz (15MB Cache) or i7 5820k 3.3 GHz (15MB Cache) or i7 5960x 3.0Hhz (20MB Cache) but i don't think i can stretch to the last one, but either of the other two would be better than the i7 for encoding then?

Definitely get Intel Core i7-5930K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.5GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W. It has a higher Ghz and it's 6-Cores. More Core equals better encoding but harder over clocking. And Intel Chips do not like being over clocked. Just make sure you put a good after market fans on it. All you need is the push and pull 250mm fans I believe. I think the thermal compound you'll want is called Arctic Silver 5 or Prolimatech PRO-PK3-30G Nano Aluminum High-Grade Thermal Compound in 30 Gram. Just make sure you keep the CPU under 65c anything over will give it a short life.peter7769 wrote:Hi

Your'e also going to need fast G-Skill Memory, you'll probably need DDR4 Sticks. Forgot and if you're building a PC get an SSD too.
Also a GeForce 970 or 980 Ti with 4 GB memory in the card would help you speed up a conversion too!

Everything looks good just make sure you get a seaSonic power supply.
The main thing you want powerful is.
1) GPU - If possible get a Ti of what you would like.
2) RAM - Get the fast ram.
3) SSD - Pull out the middle man of hdd's and get a 1TB SSD. Regular hard drives are going to slow down your machine.
4) CPU - Get as many cores and GHz as you can.
additional advice. Don't use a butch of external usb devices, usb tends to fail when over-loaded, If you do end up getting a regular hard drive get a black edition with a big cache size. Make sure all of your case fans push at-least 2,000 rpm. If they're doing 500 or 600 rpm replace them as they will just gather heat in the case more. 3.1 usb is going to happen and I already see some board using it maybe try and get a board with 3.1 ports. Do not use too much thermal paste on your cpu just a couple drops and then coat it with an old plastic card. Always clean thermal paste with rubbing alcohol make sure you use a coffee filter when doing so. When installing after market fans be careful not to break the plastic clip screwing down to hard will crack them. Make sure if you have 4 sticks of memory that they're quad-channel. Don't over-clock unless you feel like you have to, same with flashing the bio's. Always make sure you update the firmware with Blu-ray burners.

I would like to add my personal experience. Overall, I am disappointed that ConvertXtoHD is taxing my system much more than what I had expected.

Conversion priority "lowest". (crashed at "Highest")
After reading the forums, didn't "check" some of the feature that may not be so important or increase the performance.
Been at this project 45mins, says I have 1 hour 43 mins to go. Total time 2:30 hours or so.
I want to burn to 50GB blank Blu-Ray disk, so this burning is not included in the 2 1/2 hours.
If I select all 10 title sets + Highest priority, the converxtohd.exe crashes on me. So I scaled it back.
I have some serious hardware and expected to rip through big converting projects, but I needed to back off the settings.
Any big ideas to tweak to make me more efficient to go through the converting process?
fyi: system is not overclocked. Nothing running in the background.
edit: the above was my first 50GB Blu-Ray drive attempt and it was flawless. 9 hours, 40mins of 1080 crystal clear.
