I installed the new 1.5.0.3 version and it solved the launch error I was previously getting but I still couldn't do a conversion with or without hardware acceleration. I reverted back to "340.52-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql" driver and the problem still persists and I can't do a conversion.

I reinstalled nvidia "344.11-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql" driver and reverted to video converter v1.5.0.2 and things are working again. Something amiss with v1.5.0.3 with/without hardware conversion.

Thanks,

Installed version 1.5.0.3 at about 9.30pm last night and getting the installation error "Invalid Data Type etc"

I can go past this and the application launches, but drag and drop iso onto window does nothing. Loading iso works, but getting the error message when trying to encode.

Aspect Ratio (Fit to destination) is not being applied.

@cribber - can you post your custom profile or provide more details?

I'm not at home at the moment, but when I import a clip of 1920x800 and convert to 1920x1080 (with 'fit to destination' aspect ratio selected), it normally adds black bars but it doesn't anymore. I haven't tested the recent 1.5.0.4 just posted but I doubt it will work.

Hello cribber,

"fit to destination" setting (in custom profile editor?) should not add black bars, but should produce a 1920x800 output file.
If you want to add black bars, you must set your output resolution and select "Letterbox" as video fit method.

Regards,

Come on Cedric, 'Fit on Destination' (Custom Profile) has worked like this for several months.

If my source clip is 1920x800, 'Fit on Destination' has always added blacks bars to make it 1920x1080. It doesn't work anymore.

And I still cannot select QuickSync in the options, its greyed out.

Thanks,
I installed v 1.5.0.4 and was unable to do a conversion with or without hardware acceleration - same as problem above. I am using nvidia "344.11-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql" driver. I reverted to version 1.5.0.2 and everything is working (still using "344.11-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql" driver).

between the different versions do you see a difference in the preview window?
your screenshot you posted, was with the latest version? as we can see no black bars are there

Yes this is with the latest version. I only do quick tests with this as there are too many bugs at the moment. I use DVDFab. The last version that I actually used for encoding was 1.4.x.x and 'Fit on Destination' added black bars in the preview and final encode as I said above.

EditI just tried 1.4.0.22 and it did not add black bars.

FIle "fit on destination.txt" is my profile, rename to .xml if you want to load it in your Video Converter to see my settings

I just tried version 1.4.0.18 and it adds black bars. That was the whole point of adding the 'Fit on Destination' option in the Custom Profile.

Does that mean the bug has been reported ?

So it looks like I now have to manually set the aspect ratio to get black bars/pan scan. Why was this changed from what it was previously ?

I updated to version 1.5.0.5 and updated my nvidia driver to "344.11-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql" and the software seems to be running fine.

I've noticed that using my custom mkv remux profile that the reference frames quantity is not being honored when I do a remux. I have tried both 4 and 5 quantity for the reference frames and when I check the output file with Mediainfo it indicates only 3 reference frames regardless of my profile choice. Am I missing something on setting the options?

The software continues to evolve great, and I am super happy at the ability to handle hi-def audio formats.

Many thanks,

Tony

Hello scorpion90,

A remuxed file is a direct copy of the audio, video, and/or subtitle file(s) into a container (mkv, mp4, etc.). Reference frames are only used while converting, not copying.

I hope my explanation was clear enough.

Thanks for reading,
Neil M

Hi Neil,

Thank you for taking the time to explain the remux conversion, it makes perfect sense and I understand. I now realize that the reference frames only come into effect when transcoding the video.

Many thanks,
Tony
