for this last version posted 1.2.1.3, make sure you have a language selected, otherwise the converter does not work. You can go to General Settings/ language and select a language there in order for all the settings to work correctly.

With every Blu-Ray-Folder I tried, I get the same Crash with 1.2.1.3 when I select DVD as target (directly after selection of language/subs):
"Access violation at address 00753087 in module "BlueRayConverterUltimate.exe". Read of address 00000014."

1.2.1.2 worked ok (for DVD conversion), even with newest Nvidia drivers, as it obviously didn't use CUDA for decoding any more like previous versions (which crashed when starting to convert)...

As a side note for 1.2.1.2: even though I select "German" as (default) language, the Converter ignores this for the audio (but not for the subtitle) track and only selects the English track if there is one. In case there is no English track, no audio track is selected. Honestly I'd prefer a setup option that allows me to select a primary default language plus additional default languages. E.g. usually I want German as the default language, but also keep the English audio/subtitle tracks.

One more thing: I really like the automatic cover background (apart from the very bad scaling algorithm that is obviously used there), but firstly I'd like to see a preview instead of heaving to wait until the DVD was created. And secondly the combination with the video menu kinda destroys the idea of the cover as most movies start with a black screen and so after a few seconds the upper third of the screen becomes black which is a little irritating. That being said, it would be nice to have a preview for the menu video as well and the option to select the start of the menu manually. As said before, the automatic selection of the first few seconds usually leads only to a black screen.

Last but not least: why is there no option to automatically create a chapter menu as this is possible with ConvertXtoDVD?

Yes, I'm getting the same error "Access violation at address 00753087" Seems to be when you select DVD as the output.

If I select the as MKV, AVI, Playstation 3, XBOX360 or Apple device I am then able to go to the settings section.

On the Setting section there is nothing in the Video Quality Pull down menu.

I am then unable to go any further as I get the error "List index out of bounds (-1)

Many thanks. eon

Hi,

I think the problem can be raized by a translation engine issue...
Can you try to select another language (like Japanese), then reselect the good one?

I'm waiting for your feedback...

Thanks!

Hm, yeah, when selecting another language, it seemed to work. Directly when switching back to German there was another Access Violation, but after this, it also worked ok.
The default audio track selection is still broken though: if there's an English audio track, the default language (German) is ignored for the audio track, while the subtitle track is correctly selected. If there's no English audio track, but e.g. only French and German, 1.2.1.3 now selects German (where 1.2.1.2 selected nothing).
Also I'd like to emphasize the idea to get a preview for the menu background (cover) and also the possibility to use an own JPG as background image.

Hi,

I added cover picture preview (Ver 1.2.1.4) in video structure tree, and you can select your own background picture (using right click on project node).

I don't know what you mean by default language, but I think I must give your more details about automatic audio/subtitle selection...
The default language used to auto select audio tracks is not the software language (German in your case), but it's the last checked audio language.
Like some users prefer to see movies in original version with subtitles, I choosen to use this way to auto select the tracks.
Same way is used to autoselect subtitle tracks.

In your case, unselect all audio tracks then select the German track.
After that, German will be your default audio track language and these tracks will be automaticaly selected if available (if not available, the first audio track will be checked).

Thank you for your feedbacks.

Great, thanks!
Two questions though: I haven't tried yet in 1.2.1.4, but in previous versions the scaling of the JPG looked pretty rough. Since the converter itself uses Lanczos, wouldn't it be possible to use something like this for the bitmap as well?
Secondly: is the image scaled to 720x576 in a PAL project or is some overlay considered? Would be nice to know if a custom background is used...

Ok, firstly my usecase is that I always want German as primary audio and subtitle language, but I also always want English as secondary audio/subtitle language. Other tools like ClownBD allow me to set a primary, secondary (, tertiary, ...) audio and subtitle language and automatically pre-select the according audio tracks. So if there are English tracks, they are automatically selected (as secondary) and if not, only German is selected.
In BD Converter, if I select German and English in one project and the next time there is no English track, either nothing or German is selected (seems to depend on the version). Anyway, if the next project contains German and English, again only German is selected.
So it would be really nice to have a setup options for multiple audio/subtitle tracks with a priority so it's clear that always the primary audio language (and forced subtitle track) is the default.
As a side note, it would be nice if forced subtitle tracks (or to be more accurate: subtitle tracks which contain forced subtitles) would be marked as such.

And while we're at it: is there any reason that the target Bitrate is so low? As far as I can say, no project output ever excessed 3.3GB, most conversions end below 3GB. It seems that the Encoder aims for a multiplexed stream bitrate in the (low to mid) 5.xMBit/s range. The output quality is usually good enough to watch on a (not so big) TV, but it's definitely not as good as it could be with a higher bitrate. And in this light it seems weird to leave >1GB of the available space unused.

Last but not least: when I try to open the German version of Shrek 4, I get an acces violation at 0x40626a, read of address 0. When I try to select another language in the general settings, I get an access violation at 0x753087, read of address 0x14. And btw. all the languages are listed twice in the general language settings.

v1.2.1.5 has a couple of new bugs..

when starting the program and selecting your blu-ray no audio has been pre-selected but subtitles has, even with default language set..
trying to set no subs at all returns an access violation error and the subs remain selected.

for now i have returned to v1.2.1.4

In all versions since 1.2.1.5 to 1.2.1.7, it's not possible to use anything but the DVD5 profile at least for some BDs.
E.g. for the German version of Shrek 4, selecting either DVD9 or custom size or no size limits all results in an immediate stop of the conversion with the message in the sense of "conversion stopped by user request" although this is not the case.
Only the DVD5 profile works, but as always the result ends in the 2.7GB range which is only half of the available space. I don't expect the converter to use the optimal bitrate, but missing the target by half of the available size is pretty much off. And it's not like this bandwidth was not needed.

Hi :)
I have no such problem .
R2 UK .

Edit:
OK, I have come across the fact that file size is not what it should be.
I get currently an average file amount of 5.5GB.
This is as oppossed to the 7.5+ that one would expect.

As mentioned several times before, the BD Converter seems to limit the bandwidth of the multiplexed output stream for DVDs somewhere in the (low to mid) 5.xMBit/s range which results in pretty empty DVDs for the typical 110-120min movie. A typical commercial DVD is more in the 6 to 8MBit/s range and of course the converter should adapt the bandwidth to the space available and limit it only when the DVD specifications would be violated. However this limit is somewhere around 10MBit/s, so it's really unclear why the Converter limits the bandwidth to half of this. Then again, ConvertXtoDVD always had a similar behavior, so I wonder if this is a limitation of the MPEG2 encoder used in the VSO products. Then of course the question would be why an encoder which such severe limitations is used at all.

Hi all,

I worked around this target size (and bitrate) problem and I think it's fixed now...

Next beta version ( 1.2.1.8 ) will include these changes and max bitrate should be used (but staying in DVD Video bitrate specifications)

Thanks!

Hi :)
Here in the UK.R2.
If I select DVD5 then file size is bearable (though I'd like it upped personally).
If I select DVD9 then file size is between 5 > 5.5GB.
However with "No limit" Iget this (see attached).
