"Fix Audio/Video Synchronization Issues" Option

Hi!

I've tried looking for an answer but I can't seem to find an explanation of what the "Fix Audio/Video Synchronization Issues" option does on the DVD output profiles.

Is it something I can safely leave turned on? Can someone explain exactly what it's doing?

Many thanks!

Hello,

For the blu-ray converter software I do not know. The developer is currently away until monday 7th.

Below is what is true for ConvertXtoDVD:
The setting "do not fix audio discontinuities" is best to leave unchecked. It is there in case you do have audio/video sync issues, you can check it and the file will be encoded differently - hopefully fix the audio/video sync issue.

I am not sure on the technical explanation. I think I remember hearing though that some audio streams have empty parts or holes where there is no audio coming though nor with any information for the encoder on how to handle this in regards to the video. Depending on whether the Converter leaves them as is or processes them it can give a different result in regards to synchronization.

There are files that are not affected by this setting whether it is checked or not, but I am sure it can have a negative impact on some files if checked otherwise it would be checked by default. I have not not tested this.

Thanks for the explanation Claire! Can you ask Cedric to give his advice when he returns from his holidays too?

Hi crowfax,

You can turn on this option for all your conversion processes, is totally safe.
This option is only used when source has been badly muxed, and will not be used by program for commercial (clean) Blu-rays.
I added this option for other source types like AVCHD from camcorder or muxing program like TsMuxer...

Thanks.

Hi Cedric!

Thanks for the information. I've tried it with a few movies now (both ISO's ripped my AnyDVD and MKV files made with MakeMKV) and I only see information in the log about audio being added and removed if the original blu-ray was a seamless branching disc; like the new A-Team movie. Does that sound like something that might happen?

Many thanks!
