Keeping DTS Audio

Is it possible to keep the DTS audio from the Blu-ray? I'm converting some of mine into 1080p HQ MKV format and it always changes the audio to AC3.

use mkvextract to get the dts out, and mkvmerge to put it back in after you finished.

Tsmuxer might be the solution to get the dts out, then you can use mkvmerge to join all files again.

Hi,
You don't need any extra tools to keep the DTS (HD Master?) audio stream in your mkv file...
You must create your own custom profile :
- click on profile selector, "Custom profiles", "Click here to add a custom profile"...
- select mkv as container
- select H264 as Video codec
- select remux as Audio codec
- click on OK button, the new profile is now available in profile selector
With this new profile, the audio tracks will only be remuxed (copied), without any conversion.
Thanks.

I've tried to keep the uncompressed audio but it seems to always default back to using a compressed version of audio. Anyone else had any issues getting uncompressed audio playback with MKV?
I should also not that I've tried playing it in VLC, Total Media Theater 5 as well as PowerDVD. I know Total Media Theater is capable of doing this as I have a different MKV test file that works and has Tru-digital output.

Hi dave84dd ,
How do you keep the audio source track in output?
Do you create your own custom profile and select "only remux" as audio codec?
If yes, why do you say the output "seems" to be compressed?
I know the audio stream detection can be different regarding the container.
The same track in m2ts container can be detected/displayed differenlty in a mkv container.
I will check if something is missing in mkv metadata for audio track description.
Thanks!

I created a custom profile based on the info above.
My receiver just keeps showing DTS when I play a converted bluray MKV vs. DTS-HD MSTR when I play back from the original source disk.
That is what I am basing my information on. Hopefully that makes sense.

Yes, same thing happened to me. Seems that the software makes an automatic downconvert to DTS-HD to DTS, can you fix this? Thanks

Hi all,
If you used remux as audio codec, for sure the audio track on output is exactly the same as input.
In this case, the input stream is not decoded (packets from demuxer are only updated with a new timestamp) and no encoding is processed.
Like I said, I think the problem is with audio track properties tagging for output.
I will work on this problem on next week.
What program do you use to check the audio track format?
Thank you!

Cedric,
you need to select: No reencoding, only remux to keep both DTS and AC3 audio?

Yes, "No reencoding" means remuxing.
When remuxing, the original stream is not reencoded and output stream keeps exactly the same properties as the source.
Regards.

Use tsmuxer ! Load the converted videostream. Remove the 2 Chanel audio. Load the original videostream. Remove the videostream and keep the original audiostream. Now u have converted videostream with original audiostream. Hit the start muxing button. Geronimo !!!
