DVD Converter Ultimate 1.4.0.8 not Converting SG-1 DVDs

Hi

Trying to rip my Stargate SG-1 DVDs to MKVs. I've done Season 10 - Season 4 and have arrived at Season 3.

I'm using: HD Ready (720p) H264 *HQ*, which should give files between 500 - 600 Mb.

I've tried Discs 5 & 2 with the same result, files around 76-104Mb and the files are unplayable, during conversion the Preview is blank.

For logging purposes I stopped the conversion once it started the second episode...

I can convert using MakeMKV which gives files around 1.5GB and Handbrake which gives me files of the size and quality (?) that I want.

Can you play the videos with a video player on your computer before trying to convert them? What is the video player?
Are you using a decryptor?

Season 3 is Region 1 (some of the other Seasons were also Region 1).

I'm using the latest AnyDVD HD to frig the Region.

I can play the discs with:
* PowerDVD 9
* Windows Media Player
* VSO Media Player 0.1.1.268
* VLC Media Player 2.0.0.0

Can you read it with the latest version of VSO Media Player?

Installed Vso Media Player - Version 1.0.0.422

Loaded DVD 1 and let AnyDVD HD chug away.

When I told VMP where to find the DVD structure it gave me the following message:

This disc may be protected.
If you experience troubles at playback you may need a decryptor such as AnyDVD

And when I selected the first episode, it flashed up "Please Wait" and moved on to the next Episode and on through the Bonus items without playing anything

Downloaded v2.0.0.4 and I am running in Trial Mode as I can't receive the new key for some reason.

I'm using MKV (Matroska) HD Ready (720p) H264 which has given a file 1,014,978 for Episode 1 of Season 3. It took about 30 minutes to transcode the 10 minutes. The small thumb showed throughout.

But it is not watchable. Diagonal lines and every so often a normal viewable picture for less than a second.

Left picture is MKV, right picture is the Source DVD playing in sync.

To me it looks like protection issue. Very many series are released with different protections on same DVD set.

But they can and were ripped by Handbrake, just not by DVD Converter and they could not be played using the latest VSO Media Player.

Try ripping those discs to harddrive, then check size of ripped folder and try play that folder.
If result is clean and playable, then convert that folder.

It might be that AnyDVD HD can't remove protection fully from those DVDs...

* Copied disk 2 this time using AnyDVD to Folder
* Played the folder using VLC 2.0.0.0 - Ok
* Tried folder using Vso Media Player - "Warning - This disc may be protected."
* Played folder using CyberLink PowerDVD 9 - Ok

Used DVD Converter with the same result and no change to the log file e.g nothing about 'bad' files like the older version.

So no change copying the files to the Harddrive.

Ran the copied files through CloneDVD and created and ISO.
Vso Media Play gives the same Warning trying to play the new ISO/UDF Image

This might be it. Protected files can often be played fine, but not converted.
