Video downloads without audio

I tried VSO Downloader because the two others I tried had sniffers (back door trojans) furtively bundled that tried to log my keystrokes. Nasty! Only one of those apps worked, but then I had to recode and multiplex, since the audio and video downloaded as separate files.

Now I have no difficulty downloading a test file with VSO Downloader from this site; but when I download from YouTube--even one my own posting--only the video file is downloaded.

Has anyone had success in downloading video from YouTube without the audio removed? If so, please share the secret.

I have no problems downloading with audio, some Youtube videos are protected so that they record "live" but I still get audio.
What files you have problems with?

Thanks for responding.

I tested the software, randomly selecting YouTube video. VSO Downloader is yet to successfully download video with audio. For example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyOBj8TW65o

The result is always the same: the downloaded file has a non-usable extension, namely "videoplayback.ext," which, in this instance, I renamed as "kitty.mp4" to enable playback. MediaInfo identifies the format as "AVC."

What video file have you been able to download with audio included?

Your example video has nice little kitten making noise - audio works just fine and download came in few seconds.

Something else is wrong with your setup.

My Internet connection (FIOS) uses RG-6 coax to indoors. Since moving my router to another room, where the co-axial cable is the old RG-59 that cannot support big data loads, I've noticed that many videos take ages to play; and some won't play at all. That may be the problem.

I'm going to get a powerline network adapters for the connection. If that option fails, I'll have to move the router back to the original location and suffer a wireless connection.

Solved...well, almost.

Until the powerline network adapters arrive, I removed four coax cables that were connected to a splitter in the attic, leaving only my TV and router connected. The signal strength greatly improved, and VSO Downloader now downloads vdeo with audio. Yay! I still need to rename the file extension of the video as it always downloads as *.ext. I use freeware GSpot and MediaInfo to identify the format. Usually the video is .mp4 or .flv, and the audio is .aac.

But one video still downloads with the video and audio demuxed (separated). While I can multiplex the two and correct faulty aspect ratio, re-combining audio and video is a labor for me. I'm curious if anyone else is able to download the clip of Ben Graham's 85 meter kick on YouTube with the video and audio together:

No problems, got it as "videoplayback.mp4", downloaded in about 20 seconds and works like a charm!
File is 18,5MB, 422*480pixels and total time 2 minutes 6 seconds.

Well, I have to give up on VSO Downloader. Not on my Desktop nor on my laptop does the app consistently download YouTube videos with audio. About 90% of the time I get a file with the *.ext file extension, which I change to MP4 or FLV, depending on the data MediaInfo provides. So about one out of ten times does VSO's downloader include the audio, and only for FLV files.

I tried YTD trial version and it worked consistently and flawlessly. So I'll buy that program.

VSO's ConvertXtoDVD is an excellent program, so I'm surprised that the Downloader is so flaky on my computers. My perspective is that anyone who is having success with VSO Downloader is fortunate.

Cheers!
