Feature Request: Crop Black Bars

Post by eon_designs »

Hello

Can we have the option to remove the black bars (top and bottom) during encoding so that the end video is essentially cropped. So for example, a PAL DVD 720 x 576 with the black bars removed would then become 720 x 340 if it was at 16:9 (or something close to that)

Many thanks. eon

Something a little odd here:

Just tested the latest version 1.4.0.16b to try the removing of the black bars.

On my Xeon desktop selecting the user defined as the fit method and then pressing the Remove Black Bars did nothing - no values were populated - nothing happens

If I then tried the same version on my i7 laptop pressing the Remove Black Bars did populate the values (gave it a -74 value) the preview image then stretched to fit the whole window removing the black bars.

Don't know why that is happening?

Also having the preview stretch to fit is a little bit odd and misleading to what the actual output is going to be. This is probably where I originally did not think it was working. When I see that the preview is stretched that is what I think the output is going to look like. When you actually do the encoding the output is at the right aspect ratio and properly cropped.

Is there anyway of changing the preview so that the grey surround overlaps the image to show that the image has been cropped? I have enclosed a couple of images to illustrate

Original Window: Realise that the preview is not at its proper display ratio

Remove Black Bars Window: Image stretched to fit, a little misleading as the display ratio is off

Possible Alternative: crop and show at the correct display ratio

Thanks.
