This is just a simple question to find out the encoding speeds people are getting from different systems:

Please use the Big Bunny avi as your sample, http://oasis.vso-software.fr/videos/big_buck_bunny.avi (thanks to Cedric for providing the link) and encode using the default profile of MKV H264. State what CPU you have along with the graphics card or onboard graphics, Quick Sync, CUDA or Hardware encoding

Let the encoding run and note the highest (average) fps

Hopefully this will create a good profile of CPU's / Graphics speeds for encoding.

for example my test system:

Intel i5 4250U
Intel HD 5000
115fps using Quick Sync

Xeon E31280
Quadra 4000M
93fps using CUDA

Ok. My system is core2duo E8600 3.3Ghz + Nvidia GTX590

Using old drivers 337.85 with old way cuda supporting i've got 64fps converting to MKV-H264 profile with best quality feature. Without BQ i've got the same 60fps. On latest 344.11 drivers i've got stable 65-67 fps with or without BQ.
When CX not using Nvidia i've got 20fps with BQ. Wihout BQ i've got the same 20fps.
..........
But if a convert xvid(640x352 screen) to MKV-H264 i've got 300 fps!!! And so bad that my GTX not using in DVD conversion at all. It's using only for H264 encoding
