HTTPS/SSL support

New version 5 download adds all the HTTPS components needed to support this protocol (test it out now, some sites we are still working on but will be added soon).

Activating HTTPS/SSL will install a VSO certificate (in your Windows Certificate store and Firefox if installed) which will allow you to support more media/more websites.
Windows will ask you for authorization for installing the certificate, as you need administrator privileges to do this; you must allow this installation to happen.
Once installed if you put your mouse over the detection icon you can see HTTPS/SSL activated.

Another way to insure correct installation is by typing certmgr.msc in your Windows Start menu and pressing enter. In a new window and you will see "VSO Downloader 5 root CA" displayed there:

At any time you can remove this certificate in the settings of VSO Downloader by unchecking "Monitor HTTPS/SSL" in the Detection section and this will uninstall these components for you. Or you can manually uninstall in certmgr.msc, right click on VSO Downloader and select Delete.



Eventual problems may arise when HTTPS/SSL is activated:
1. VSO Downloader crashes: If after activating HTTPS/SSL setting and VSO Downloader unexpectedly shuts down immediately after then there is a conflict with other proxy settings.
2. Internet connection no longer works: This can happen if the downloader crashes. The downloader can crash on it's own or a crash can be provoked for example if Windows starts to Shutdown and it forces the closing of VSO Downloader. As odd as it may sound to get your internet connection working again once your computer is turned one, you just need to open VSO Downloader and close it. Now refresh your page in your web browser and you should be back in business.
3. Conflict with 3rd party proxys. Different proxy systems exist and VSO Downloader as you know now, has its own. If several proxys are running at the same time there are chances neither work or only one or the other. Generally a plugin webbrowser proxy will always work instead of the VSO Downloader proxy. It is up to you to privilege who you want, but one proxy will need to be disabled for the other to work. If you disable the proxy in your webbrowser then to get the downloaders proxy working again you need to click on the green detection icon, stop it and click on it again to start it.
