Oh no. We have a problem.

I have a video file, downloaded from You Tube. It is an MP4 that is 9.77 GB. I get the "Oh no..." message when I load it into ConvertX. It plays fine on VLC. Is this file too large for the software to handle? What are some other things I can check to see why I can't convert this?

I would first check into converting the file. Most likely, the issue is the video is encoded as x265, which isn't supported by the 32 bit version of CXD. Version 8 should support those, but, in the meantime, you can "downgrade" x265 to x264.
VSO has a utility to do this, but I forget what it's called and where you can download it. Maybe you can find it somewhere on VSO's website, like maybe in the CXD download area.
What I use is AVIDeMux. It's a free utility, too, and you can choose x264 under the Video options for saving loaded video containers to new container files.
I can't think of a single instance in recent memory where when CXD fails to process a file that wasn't damaged/incorrectly authored that an AVIDeMux conversion to x264 didn't work.
